What happens when the Geneva Conventions are Violated?

Posted on July 7th, 2010 by admin in conventions | 5 Comments »

Hi everybody, I’m writing a research paper and I was wondering what happens when the Geneva Conventions are violated. If anyone knows the legal consequence please post an answer with a citation. However don’t be afraid of posting a de facto answer.

Thanks for the help.

The World Court has the International legal power to impose a judgment when the rules of the Geneva Convention have been violated and proven. A complaint must be filed with the Court stating the violations. The complaint is normally filed by a Country represented by their attorney.

How did Henri Matisse use conventions of Fauvism in The Red Room?

Posted on July 4th, 2010 by admin in conventions | 4 Comments »

How did Henri Matisse use conventions of Fauvism in The Red Room?

1)Matisse used warm and cool colors and modeled the objects to create a sense of form.
2)Matisse used one-point perspective and created a deep sense of space.

3)Matisse used overall decorative-patterning and created a flattened sense of space.

4)Matisse showed his political views and his feelings about World Wars I and II through the loneliness expressed by the woman.

The answer would be number one…..since fauvism is all about punchy coloring and painting techniques

Do I have to register for anime conventions?

Posted on July 1st, 2010 by admin in conventions | 3 Comments »

I’ve done a little research and a lot of websites advise registering for conventions before you go, only I can’t find where to register. Does this mean I have to pay to get in at the door or can I get in touch with the organisers of the convention?

It totally depends on the convention. Some will have areas open to anyone, while special areas require a badge to access, which would require you to pre-register. You should really check the specific conventions ahead of time. Sometimes it’s cheaper to pay in advance for the ones that charge. ;)

What are the typical conventions of ‘battle music’?

Posted on June 29th, 2010 by admin in conventions | 3 Comments »

I have to write a piece called ‘the night before the battle’ and wondered what are the typical conventions of a piece like this? I know loud crescendos are one, but that’s about it. Help please? :)

lots of percussion and brass. that creates a lot of drama. percussion beat should be steady – ostinato would be a good thing to go with here. you can experiment with dynamics too.
but since you got "the night BEFORE the battle"… a good solo would do the trick – try with cello. include percussion too but go easy on the loudness. try to think how you would feel before the battle. part of you is probably thinking of all that’s dear to you and all that you could lose within hours. the other part is really aggressive and wants blood.

good luck!

What are the main conventions within the film Alien?

Posted on June 26th, 2010 by admin in conventions | 1 Comment »

This is for Extension 1 English.

I need to discuss these conventions in order to comment as to why
Alien then attracted its sequels.

In several ways,"Alien" either busted conventions of sci/fi horror and set some on their ear. For instance, while it’s set in outer space, "Alien" is very much a "haunted house" story. "In space, no one can hear you scream" was the tag line used in the promotion of the original release and it’s true. There you are, stuck out in the middle of the galaxy,a monster on heels and there’s nowhere to run.
Second, the introduction of Ellen Ripley raised the bar for how women were portrayed, especially in the horror genre. Usually, the female characters stand around being decorative or screaming or fainting and basically getting in the way, but all that changed with this film and it set the bar several feet higher.
Third, there are the (for the time)amazing special effects, especially the various incarnations of The Creature, from the face-hugger(which creeps you out no end with the way it practically rapes it’s victims while implanting eggs in your chest cavity) and the almost beautiful legged creature with it’s sleek skin and double rows of teeth.
And, while "Alien" is very much a haunted house story, it’s sequel is a roller-coaster ride of a film, with 12 o’clock climax after 12 o’ clock climax, leading to the Ultimate Battle Royale between Ripley and The Alien Queen.
When Ripley appears in the mechanical heavy equipment loader and screams,"Get Away From Her,You B&^ch!" you can’t help but cheer her on.
These elements, plus solid characterizations and scripting are what made up the phenomenal success of the first two installments and (to a somewhat lesser degree)the next two. But all in all, The Alien Quadrilogy is arguably a masterwork of scfi/fi films and is the benchmark,in many respects for the continuing popularity of the genre itself.
