How much should I ask as a fee for organizing a series of business meetings in China for a major US university

Posted on July 9th, 2010 by admin in meetings | 1 Comment »

I am an American expat in China, recently graduated from a grad program at a top tier US university. The business school at this university is planning to expand their MBA program to China by cooperating with major corporations with offices within a certain city. I was recommended to coordinate the visit. My task would be to organize meetings with twelve businesses over three days. I have to contact the businesses on my own and arrange the meetings–this legwork will be the majority of the work involved. When they arrive my task is to accompany them, act as translator when needed, and arrange for meals and transport. I need advice on how much to ask as a fee. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

12 businesses in 3 days? They are biting off more than they can chew. But that’s another story. You should charge $500 per business for the coordination and "legwork" as you aptly call it (you will need to visit each business in person to make the arrangements properly – don’t try to do it via phone and email alone). That’s $6,000 to set it up.
Then there’s your fee for holding their hand on their visit, which is another $1000 per day. That’s $3000 more.
Total: $9000.
This is approximately the cost of a first class plane ticket.
You’d better do a damn good job – I have organized countless visits & meetings in China like the one you described, and there are a million details. Hotels, meals, transportation, coordinating with each company, ensuring your visitors accomplish everything they set out to do AND that they get to see some sites and do some shopping (which they’re going to want to do). You should use part of the fee to hire a local "assistant" – an English-speaking local to help lighten your load. Ask them to wire you a deposit (at least 10%), otherwise you’ll start doing all this work, paying for taxis and wasting your time, and then for whatever reason they’ll cancel or postpone their trip. Good luck!

How do I become a Quaker if there are no meetings around me?

Posted on July 7th, 2010 by admin in meetings | 7 Comments »

I’ve been doing some research on the RSOF, but there are absolutely no Quaker meetings that I have access to. Can I still become a Friend?

There is an organization called the "Wider Quaker Fellowship" that exists for people who are interested in the Quakers but do not have ready access to a meeting. Try the following link. I hope you find what you are looking for!

Meetings With Remarkable Men (Part 1 of 11)

Posted on July 4th, 2010 by admin in meetings | 25 Comments »

Filmed in 1979 by Peter Brook. A classic spiritual movie of G.I. Gurdjieff struggles beginning with his childhood until his discovery of The Fourth Way, an ancient spiritual tradition that used sacred movements as meditation. The story in this film is based on Gudjieff’s book with the same title, which is the second book of his trilogy: “All and Everything”.

During his long career, director Peter Brook has conducted a wide range of theatrical experiments, pushing audiences and performers well beyond their typical experience of theater, in an effort to achieve not a temporary catharsis but a transcendent, transformative event. As the narrator of THE MAHABHARATA says, “If you listen carefully, at the end, you’ll be somebody else.”

This interest in transformation that has characterized the latter part of Brook’s career continues with this adaptation of the autobiography of famed mystic G.I. Gurdjieff, which stars Dragan Maksimovic. Driven by a sense of unwavering dedication to unraveling the meaning of human existence, he journeys throughout the most unattainable areas of the East, encountering an array of Hindu fakirs, Buddhist monks, whirling dervishes, and gurus of every stripe.

In search of enlightenment, he climbs the Himalayas, walks across the desert on stilts, and uncovers evidence of an ancient order, guards of an arcane wisdom. Most fascinating, perhaps, is the form of dance he created as a form of meditation and later taught in the West. A film that may be best appreciated by those already familiar with the work of Gurdjieff, MEETINGS WITH REMARKABLE MEN features spectacular photography and a highly evocative score, incorporating various indigenous musics.

What are the protestors at G20 and G8 meetings protesting about?

Posted on July 4th, 2010 by admin in meetings | 6 Comments »

Can any one explain to me in plain english, what are the protestors at G8 and G20 meetings protesting about? I know its globalization but please eloborate!

The core feature of the protesters is they have issues with reality, the nature of man and have poor metaphysics. Most of them hate capitalism because it’s a system that only rewards those willing to work for their own happiness. They would rather live in a collectivist fantasy land. They’re fueled on by intellectual f**kwits such as Slavoj Žižek who harbor a deep hatred of humanity.

What do you think about the president asking citizens to snitch on others about the health care meetings?

Posted on July 1st, 2010 by admin in meetings | 26 Comments »

As I’m sure your aware of, the president has posted on the white house web site a link where people can snitch on others who spread the word about the town hall meetings such as through e-mail or on face book or other web sites?

Personally I think it’s sad.

When Bush was President. Hillary Clinton back in 2003 made a statement saying that she and other liberals should be able to criticize the president, but if anyone criticizes 0bama we can’t do that.

I’ve already reported a number of democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, spreading disinformation about mobsters.

Are schools allowed to pray before faculty meetings and talk about Christ and God over the intercom?

Posted on June 29th, 2010 by admin in meetings | 5 Comments »

The school I teach at in Virginia, the Principal refers to religion in her daily address to the students, she also directs faculty to bow their heads as she prays at faculty meetings.
This is a public school. I am not against religion and a Christian myself, but this is almost a down your throat type of religion. A bit uncomfortable.

Public schools are not allowed to do that. Private schools can do whatever they want. If it’s a public school, complain – if you are sure you won’t be fired as a result. And contact the ACLU if they persist or you are fired. It is illegal.

How much are the republicans paying the "protesters" to show up at town hall meetings?

Posted on June 26th, 2010 by admin in meetings | 35 Comments »

After all, the same clowns are showing up in different cities and different town meetings hooting and hollering about euthanasia, socialism, and tea bags. Either they are unemployed and independently wealthy, or they are being paid. I want in on the gravy train! Where can I sign up to be a professional protester?

Nothing.

It is the liberals who hire paid protesters for their "grass roots" events.
